Shabbat Shalom from Pembroke!

The Beautiful Machine

If you’ve ever walked through the gates of Camp Pembroke, you’ve felt it. The energy of all the moving parts. Camp is a finely tuned machine, crafted with care, powered by people, and driven by purpose. Our product? Helping to create good people, confident young campers and unforgettable summers on Lake Oldham. We may not run on gears and wires, but we run all the same—non-stop, purposeful, and full of heart. Each summer we are blown away by the ease that everyone jumps right back into the muscle memory of camp. Every bunk, grilled cheese, every song in the Pine Grove is a motion that plays its role in creating a magical experience.

At the core of it is our staff—the engine that powers it all. They’re the spark plugs and pistons, firing off energy and support day in and day out.  Between leading a bunk in cheers or comforting a homesick camper late at night, they provide the consistent motion that keeps the camp running forward with love and compassion. We couldn’t feel luckier to have this incredible group driving it all.

Our campers are the gears—each one unique, each one vital. As they spin, learn, grow, and laugh, they turn each other in the most beautiful way. One camper’s courage sparks another’s confidence. One friend’s kindness sets a chain of joy into motion. They are the heart of the system—the part that everything is built around.

Then there are the traditions—the belts and pulleys that guide our movement. From Shabbat song sessions to Color War cheers, they give structure and rhythm to each summer. They’ve been oiled and polished with generations of care, passed down and fine-tuned, without ever losing their power to connect.

And don’t forget the quieter, but just as integral parts—the kitchen team, maintenance crew, housekeeping staff, leadership team, and behind-the-scenes heroes. Their quiet excellence keeps us moving forward. Without them, there would be no Shabbat services, no letters written home, no congo bars at BBQ, no water bottles cleaned and dried, no hands held or tears wiped away. It may feel like the little things, but it’s those details that allow us the opportunity to spend our summers together.

Camp Pembroke isn’t powered by fuel or electricity. We run on connection, on ruach, on memory and tradition and the belief that every camper matters…and on a LOT of coffee cake. And the best part? The product. Stronger kids. Deeper friendships. Confidence. Leadership. Joy. A community of young women who return home changed—not by chance, but by design, and by really, really hard work. Every summer, the machine runs again. And every summer, it produces something more beautiful than the last.

How lucky are we to be at the helm of such an incredible community?

Shabbat shalom!
