Tevya 2024 Leadership Team

Each summer we are fortunate to have so many dedicated professionals working together to create the magic of camp. From Head Counselors to Department Heads to Office Staff to the Health Center and more, we are grateful to everyone who makes camp run smoothly while supporting campers, teens, and counselors. While we welcome new people to our team each year, we are thrilled to have so many familiar faces returning summer after summer.  We are excited to introduce to our talented Leadership Team for the 2024 camp season.

Debbie Dylan

Debbie Dylan: Assistant Director, Programming This is my sixth summer as the Program Director at Camp Tevya. I love getting to experience the magic of camp through the eyes of each camper every summer! During the off season I am first and foremost a mom to two teenage boys. In my spare time I do consulting for nonprofits. I live in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Derrick Adelkopf: Assistant Program Director I am thrilled to begin my role as Assistant Programming Director in my 13th summer at camp! In the past I have been a counselor on athletics staff, a Dor L’ Dor counselor, and most recently a Kadima Leader last summer. I just graduated from Ithaca College where I majored in sports media with a focus in television production. Following camp, I will begin a role as a broadcast associate with MLB Network.

Rachael Kaplan

Rachael Kaplan: MESH (Mental, Emotional + Social Health) Coordinator This is my third year working at Tevya.  I love how coming to camp feels like coming home (even though I hadn’t been to a Cohen Camp since 1995!) During the school year I am a school adjustment counselor at the Newton Public Schools. I live in Needham, Massachusetts.

Michelle Wilen:  Office Manager This is my 5th summer at camp as the office manager. In the off season, you will find me in the Cohen Camps office as Tevya’s Registrar. My two favorite parts of working at camp are seeing the joy that camp provides and working with an amazing team! I live in Ashland, Massachusetts.

Callum Whalley: Olim Head Counselor  I have been working at Tevya since 2018. I started off as a Tel Chai counselor and then moved into a Kadima leadership role. In 2022 I transitioned to the Head Counselor team. My favorite part about camp is working with such an inspirational, dedicated team of people who give their heart and soul for the campers. I love spending time with my campers, counselors and staff and hearing of how camp has made a special impact on their lives. In the off season, I am a class teacher in an elementary school. I teach 10 and 11 year olds in all subjects at school. When not in school, I love to spend time walking along the coast, catching up with friends and going on holidays. I am from Wales which is a country within the UK. Wales is over 3,132 miles away from camp but it feels like home as soon as I step foot off the plane. No matter how far away you live, camp always brings people together.

Adina Kurzman: Olot Head Counselor This is my third summer as Olot Head Counselor and my 14th summer at Tevya. I am so excited to be back this summer to help spread the magic of camp to all the campers. I love watching their independence grow, friendships form, and lifelong memories being made.

In the off season I live in Framingham, Massachusetts with my husband, 2 kids, and 3 dogs. I work as a preschool teacher which gives me the flexibility to be at camp for the summer.  I look forward to another wonderful summer at Tevya and can’t wait to finally be back on the shores of Potanipo.

Being a part of this special community is a privilege and I am grateful to work alongside our dedicated dynamic team to bring our campers the most memorable summer. Growing up at Tevya myself and then watching my 3 sons grow up at Tevya has proven that “Tevya spirit lives on and on and holds us together and it keeps us strong” from generation to generation.

During the off-season, I live in Framingham and work in the Jewish nonprofit sector. When not working, I love hiking with my dog, cooking for friends, golfing, and volunteering to promote and educate around Israel advocacy.

I attended camp as a camper and a counselor for 11 years (1991-2001), and I am returning to Camp as the Head of Land Sports for my 4th summer.  My favorite part of Camp is the community piece – in that campers, counselors and Leadership Staff have the opportunity to form meaningful relationships and grow together and as a group. My favorite things about Tevya are Potanipo sunsets, Shabbat, and getting to share my love of music, theater, and dance with campers of all ages!

Hanna Dudzik: Head of Nature This will be my second season with Camp Tevya and I am so excited! I’m looking forward to instilling a love and enthusiasm for this amazing world around us in the campers and helping them have the best summer of their lives yet! When I’m not working at camp you can find me roaming the wetlands of Michigan and cuddling with my guinea pigs 🙂

Arielle Welch

Arielle Welch: Head of the Waterfront I have spent many years at camp, starting with 7 years as a camper, 1 year as a CIT, and 19 years on staff, for a total of 27 summers! My favorite part about camp is that it awakens my soul and I seek to share that light with others! I am a New Hampshire Jew! Camp Tevya helped shape my Jewish identity as a child, and Yoga brought me back to it as an adult. In the offseason, I am beginning a new career in real estate in addition to being the owner and primary teacher at Nahar Yoga LLC, teaching Hebrew School, swimming & coaching alpine ski racing when I’m not cheering for my kids in their myriad of activities!

Our dedicated and highly trained team of medical professionals is here to ensure that your child receives the best possible care throughout their stay at camp. With a deep commitment to their safety and well-being, our compassionate staff is ready to address any health concerns, provide necessary medical attention, and offer support whenever needed.

Dr. Lee Marks: Health Center Doctor  I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and spent virtually every summer of my youth at overnight camp. As I progressed through camp, I went from camper, to CIT, to counselor, and then the waterfront director for several summers. My past two summers were spent as the full time Camp Doc at a camp in Pennsylvania. I am board certified in Emergency Medicine and have spent most of my professional career at Level 1 Trauma Centers, working in both the Pediatric and Adult Emergency Departments. I also ran Emergency Medicine Residency Programs to help train those physicians wanting to specialize in Emergency Medicine. When the summer is over, I live in Annapolis, Maryland with my Black Lab (Maya) and my Sweetie (who I met while we both were teaching swimming at camp); and I am an FAA Aviation Medical Examiner for pilots. This will be my first summer at Camp Tevya, and I am very excited to become part of the Tevya family and spirit.

Lisa Guimaraes: Nurse (first session) I have been a registered nurse for approximately 5 years and took to nurse travel during the pandemic. I am in school working towards becoming a nurse practitioner in family medicine. I have two sons and we currently live in Florida. I will be sharing this adventure with my 8-year-old son Ollie, who is very excited about making new memories with some new friends! Although this will be my first summer at Camp Tevya, I am no stranger to camp life. I have spent the last 2 summers working at a camp in Pennsylvania and loved every moment. I grew up in Massachusetts, so being back in the area is a special treat. I look forward to seeing the kids grow into their new surroundings and being a part of their time at Camp Tevya this summer!

Julie McCullough: Nurse I am super excited about being one of the nurses at Camp Tevya this summer. I have been a RN for 13 years and most of my nursing experience has been in pediatrics and orthopedics.  I love the outdoors, new challenges and adventures. In my free time I love to travel, spend time with my family, my pets and my plants. My mantra in life is to help others and have a positive impact on people’s lives. I look forward to taking care of these campers this summer!

Debbie Shields: Nurse I am excited to be joining the Tevya team as a nurse in the Health Center. I come with many (like, 30 or more?) years experience as a school nurse, having covered all ages and grades and with a variety of summer camp nurse experiences. I’ve tried other nursing roles but school health, camp nursing, and working with children has always been my passion. My most favorite children are my two daughters. I look forward to coming to camp for the relationships I will build and the bonds that will keep them close, the things I will learn from everyone, the energy, excitement and fun each of us will share in our time as a camper and camp family and the precious memories I will take home that will bring me smiles, joy and gratitude for being part of the Camp Tevya family. I enjoy a great many activities for all seasons, yoga, biking, hiking, golf, swimming and water sports, skiing, snowshoeing and when I do sit I have been known to enjoy reading and sometimes knitting.

Kuria VanWieren: Nurse I have been a Registered Nurse for 13 years, and prior to that was a licensed K-12 physical education and social studies teacher. As a nurse, I have been a travel nurse for many years all around the USA.  I enjoy working with and caring for children, helping them thrive and live healthy lives. In my free time, I like to hike, run and kayak, and spend time with family and friends.  I am looking forward to a great summer at Camp Tevya!

I have over 20 years of experience in the medical field providing care to all ages. I like to learn new things and I am always up for a challenge, whatever it may be. I love the outdoors: walks with my dog, hiking, flowers and gardening and most of all, the beach. I travel a lot to Florida as I have a daughter attending Jacksonville University, majoring in Exercise Science, so when I am there, we spend most days at the beach. I am very excited about joining Camp Tevya this summer! It will definitely be an experience I will never forget!

Michele Garazi  I am excited to be back at Camp Tevya’s Health Center again this summer. I am originally from Switzerland, and now live in Rhode Island with my husband and 2 children. During the year, I am a doctor working at the hospital taking care of adult hospitalized patients, and doing administrative work. My specialties are internal medicine and infectious diseases. When summer comes, I put on a new hat and become a summer camp doctor. This will be my second summer working at camp. Prior to that, I worked for one summer at Camp Yavneh, also in New Hampshire. During my free time, I like to spend time with my kids, and practicing my favorite sport–rowing. I am looking forward for a fabulous summer working at camp, taking care of the campers, and helping keep everyone healthy.

Tammy Owen am from Tallahassee, Florida.  I moved away for approximately 10 years, but always remained in the state of Florida that I love.  I have been a nurse for almost 8 years.   I have a son and a daughter who are grown, as well as a granddaughter and grandson.  I am very blessed to have my mother just down the road from me and I have family members living nearby.  Family is very important to me and I am blessed to have a large family.  In my spare time I love being outside.  I love the beach, horseback riding, hiking, and doing some occasion travel with some of my friends.  I spend quite a bit of time with my mother getting pedicures, and sometimes just running errands together.  She is excited for me to get to experience the summer camp and see some new places.

More photos and bios coming soon!

Sloan Silberman: Tsofim Head Counselor This will be my 17th summer at camp, and first as the Tsofim Head Counselor. In 2021 I worked at camp as the Head of Nature. When I’m not at camp I work as a Field Guide for a Wilderness Therapy program in Utah, where I live.

Hannah Gundersheim: Head of Jewish Life & Learning This summer will be my 3rd as Head of Jewish Life, my 5th on staff, and my 11th at Tevya! In the offseason, I live in New York City, and am the Education Coordinator at Tkiya Music – a nonprofit organization that provides joyful Jewish participatory music experiences for organizations and communities in New York, as well as in several other cities across the country. I am so fortunate to be a professional song leader and Jewish educator of both students and other teachers year round!
