Reviews of Camp Pembroke
What parents say
In the words of Camp Pembroke parents,
from our 2026 anonymous parent surveys
Camp Pembroke is the all-girls Jewish overnight camp in Pembroke, Massachusetts. Just south of Boston, with a Horseshoe of white cabins, Pembroke has welcomed generations of girls and young women since 1935. Our camp blends the best of camp options: The rustic and the new (fitness! climbing wall! dance studio! air conditioning!). A lake and pool. Jewish community and self-confidence.

Overall Experience
Camp has truly been the best experience she could have had. She met so many incredible people and became part of an amazing Jewish community. The biggest change we have seen is how much she has grown—she came home more mature, more confident, and truly a better version of herself. We are so grateful for everything camp has given her.
This is and has been the most special place on earth for my daughter. There are not enough thanks in the world for all that you have done for her and my family. She has grown leaps and bounds because of you.
Super high praise for Pembroke!! Highlight of my child’s life
My daughters had an outstanding experience at camp. They look forward to it all year and are already begging to go the entire summer.
My daughter is her best self because of her time at Pembroke. She is her happiest, proudest self at camp. She feels so very loved.
Leadership + Staff
I really felt like Amy and Becca, the Co-Directors, were interested in getting to know us. The communication was outstanding. I loved that the Lead Counselor called, since it was my daughter's first summer. It helped me feel at ease and know she was being taken care of. The packing list was great. I loved all the events during the year where we could meet other families. My daughter made amazing friends and wants to come back.
All of the staff was warm and welcoming and made my child feel safe and loved. She loved Shabbat, Israeli Dance and singing. My daughter loved her electives and all the activities.
The camp is so special. We think Amy and Becca are amazing. My kid has super special friendships because of camp. We love Pembroke!
First-Time Camp Families
As a first time camper family, we felt supported. We loved the communication, balance of activities for our camper, as well as the Jewish life. The way the older girls embraced the younger girls was magical for our daughter.
I was so happy to see our daughter come home more confident and independent. We have been trying to work on confidence with her and she is someone that is slower to warm up so we were not sure how camp would go - but she seemed more sure of herself after the 2-week session and said she met lots of nice people and can't wait to go back.
My daughter was new to camp this year, but she came home singing Hebrew songs, talking about Shabbat, and talking about her other Jewish friends (which she didn't have before). So, I'm hoping this will be a big part of shaping her identity.
Confidence + Growth
My children's confidence and happiness is directly related to Camp Pembroke. We have constant singing, dancing, and stories all year long.
Both of my kids gain so much more confidence and it’s the place where they are the happiest. Even the thought of camp or when they tell stories, you can see their face light up and whole energy change. It's their whole world
The girls attending camp have a sense of self different from other girls their age. I see a maturity in my child that far exceeds her peers.
Camp Pembroke has given our daughter such an incredible sense of self-worth and confidence, as well as appreciation of the sisterhood she shares with other Jewish girls. From the programs they brought in to the sense of self that shines through in almost everything they do throughout each day, this community is helping our daughter to build herself up in so many ways.
Pembroke has shaped our kids' identities. It's very important and prioritized that our children attend camp.
Pembroke is her happy place. Belonging to the Pembroke community has absolutely shaped my daughter. When I pick her up, she always seems more confident, independent, and mature. I'm a Pembroke alumna, too, and even though I was only at camp for three summers, I feel connected to the Pembroke traditions and experiences (and love that I share that with my daughter now, too).
Sisterhood + Belonging
I love the bonding, friendships, and Jewish/Israeli culture and traditions. It is what makes the camp special and worthwhile.
We feel a sense of belonging and community at camp. My daughter has made wonderful friendships and found a new level of confidence from her time at Pembroke.
The Pembroke sisterhood is so strong and undeniably special. As an alum, I’m so grateful that my daughters are now able to share in this bond and belong to such a special community. Anytime I see a Pembroke alum, I am constantly welcomed with open arms and am reminded of the many special summers I spent on Lake Oldham.
My camper is finding a new set of friends with shared values. She can be her true self at camp, which is different than home. We have seen her confidence grow as a result and she's able to put herself out there more to try new things.
Jewish Identity + Connection
Camp Pembroke is a foundation for our daughter's Jewish identity. Camp gives our daughter confidence and connections that carry her through the year.
A Jewish camp community is a lifelong gift. Both my husband and I have lifelong best friends from summer camp, and it’s amazing how easy it has been for my kids to do the same. It’s a wonderful experience to be surrounded in a Jewish atmosphere and community, which our kids do not have year round.
I have seen amazing growth in my daughter's confidence. She is absolutely the best version of herself while at camp. The friendships she has built there will hopefully last for a lifetime. She loves being Jewish and treasures her Shabbats at camp - I love the positive connections to Judaism that camp helps build for her. Overall, she says she considers camp "home" and is one of her favorite places on earth. How can you beat that??
Being part of the camp community is a huge part of our life as a family, as some of our closest friends are camp friends. We don’t live in a town with a high Jewish population, so the connection to our Jewish friends and family is really important. Camp is intertwined in that Jewish identity for me and my kids. Going to camp is part of being Jewish and part of why it’s special to be Jewish.
They love everything about camp and we are proud of how well they thrive there! I think it is so important for them to belong to this Jewish community, it's really the only place where they are completely surrounded by other Jewish kids in such a positive environment.
