Honoring Lolly's love of camp

Lauren Snider z”l (Pembroke ’74–’86) passed away recently after a long battle with early onset Alzheimer’s. Lauren’s love for camp ran deep, in the friendships she cherished and the memories shared during summers spent at Pembroke. For so many of us, she represents everything that makes camp feel like home.

Lauren’s bunkmates, fellow campers, friends and family immediately came together in the most beautiful way to honor her memory through Lauren Snider Tribute Gifts.

The tremendous love, generosity, and intention of this community has already created a lasting new place in Lauren’s name at Camp Pembroke, dedicated on July 26, 2026: The Lauren Snider Yoga + Lounge Deck, now affectionately known as “Lolly’s Deck” – her family nickname. This new space reflects the joy and connection she found at camp. Here, overlooking Oldham Pond, campers can gather, breathe deeply, laugh, and feel the same sense of belonging that meant so much to her.

In addition, the ongoing Lauren Snider Scholarship Fund will ensure that future campers will have the opportunity to experience the joy, friendship, and spirit of Pembroke that shaped Lauren’s life and touched so many others. The Fund will especially support families with siblings and cousins who want to attend together, as Lauren did.

Lauren’s legacy lives on in this beautiful new space, in the camper scholarships, in the friendships she nurtured, and in the countless memories she helped create.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who has joined in on these tributes and who joins in the years ahead.

Emmet’s connection with the friends he made at Tevya—from his bunkmates to his counselors to the staff—was unlike anything we’d seen at home. As we drove away from his bunk at the end of the session, I remember kids of all ages yelling, “Bye, Emmet!! See you next summer!” The pure joy plastered on his face is imprinted in both Jeff’s and my memory..

We are so grateful to find ways to keep Emmet’s memory alive, and this particular initiative is incredibly meaningful. The outpouring of love and tributes from the Tevya community (and beyond) has been inspiring and humbling. We will always do what we can to keep Emmet’s spirit associated with the place that made him the happiest..

Lauren’s smile was simply contagious- I had such wonderful memories with her, playing on the tennis court. May her memory be a blessing. May all the young women that pass through Camp Pembroke enjoy Lauren’s gift.

Lori, Melissa and I were so lucky to have her as a counselor (twice) and we know so many people cherished their time with her as their counselor, co or friend. She was such a light and when we think of her, we think of Pembroke.

Lauren had a smile that could light up any room and a warmth that made everyone feel special. She was loving, caring, generous, and truly embodied the spirit of a camp sister. Lauren had the kindest heart, the warmest smile, and an unwavering ability to make others feel loved and valued. The memories we shared and the friendship we built over the years will always hold a special place in my heart. Lauren will forever be remembered with love and gratitude, and she will always remain in my heart.
